1989

Name Year/Model Nature of defect
Jeff Sells 1989 MX-6 Clear Coat Flaking Off
Tiffany Montgomery 1989 MX-6 Severe oxidation on the hood, roof, and trunk. I had it buffed professionally and tried to buff it myself many times. I tried rubbing compound and then a good quality wax which helped very little. It is very difficult to even remove the wax.
Zachary Staley 1989 MX-6 GT, Red I own a MX-6 and the paint looks like the clear coat bubbled up and now is flaking off but is sill red underneath. This happened on the front bummper and on the top of both front panels and on both sides, left and right , of the roof.
Jeremy Sowter 1989 Probe My probe had oxidation on the hood roof and hatch back/after repeated steps of waxing /polishing etc..it would just come back/then i decided to go deeper into the clear coat with rubbing compound;and it has made a big change in apperance/but keep in mind after using rubber compound you must wax and polish the car every 6 weeks are the oxidation will come back.also the rubbing compound does take off a small layer of the clearcoat surface.for this reason if you use the compound you must take care of the car every few months with wax and a good polish.but this is the best way to take care of oxidation/then to spend thousands for a paint job.
Chantal Rapp 1989 Probe GL I don't know how the previous owner treated the car, but when I got it the paint on the roof and hatch was almost worn down to the base. All types of cleaning and waxing have had little to no effect.
Ruben Ortega 1989 Probe GL Crows feet, oxidation, paint coming off hood, paint chips (they fell off) on drivers hood near doorhandle.
Scott Houghton 1989 Probe GL Severe oxidation on the hood, roof, and hatch. I have buffed it many times and finally went with rubbing compound and then put two coats of wax on it, it helped a little but there is still a definite problem.
Kiale Kehoe 1989 Probe GL, Black The paint on my front bumper, hood, roof, and rear deck lid is completely deft of clear coat. The paint in these locations is very easily removed when washed, and cannot be waxed or buffed. The car has been well maintained and has never seen salt water or northern roads, but it still has the problem of the clearcoat deteriorating. My 1987 Honda Accord still has excellent paint, and it has never been repainted. I would not expect that Ford could do anything for me now, but some retribution would be nice. I also own a 1995 Mazda MX-6 and now I am concerned with what paint defects may occur as the car ages.
Tom Bartley 1989 Probe GT Severe oxidation and discoloration of paint on both rear quater panels, and rear of hatch. Cleaners, waxes, professional detailers all have been ineffective.
Brian Antonelli 1989 Probe LX Bad clearcoat, etc.
Kevin Johnson 1989 Probe LX, Dark Blue Metalic T20 Severe laquer cracks on roof and hood. Severre oxidation on roof, hood, decklid, and rear quarter. Paint flaking off of hood, front bumper and taillight strip. Roof was the worst, has been repainted black.
Ken Stone 1989 Probe LX, Metallic Gray Hood and roof have been areas of oxidation. Like others, no amount of rubbing compound, waxing and polishing brings much lasting results. Also clearcoat has pealed from leading edge of outside rearview mirrors.
Michael Hall 1989 Probe, Blue Paint was originally blue but it is now more purple than blue, the clearcoat is now almost entirely peeled off of the car, everywhere besides the front fenders.
