Hi,
my name is Jerry and I drive a slightly modified 97
Probe.
This
was my Probe when I first purchased it back in late 1999 with 30k
kms on the clock.
I
really wanted a factory moonroof but since none were offered in
this country, I had to stick with an aftermarket version. I chose
a 'Webasto' fully electric external tilt and slide model to have
installed on my Probe.
It
was not long after that I came across a US based web site known
as 'Probetalk' and really started to learn alot about the car and
what improvements could be made to it.
This
included:
- Borla
stainless steel exhuast (US)
- Intrax
lowering springs (US)
- PRD
short shifter (US)
- Kmac
20mm Rear Sway Bar (locally orderd
It
was also made known to me that Ford America offered for the 97 model
in the US, an appearance package. This included racing stripes,
door decals and a chrome version of our 97 alloy swirly wheels.
This appearance package would certainly stand out amongst other
Probes and I really liked what I saw. So I sourced a set of GTS
racing stripes and decals from the states. This is what it looked
like minus the chrome swirles which were also offered for this appearance
package.
It
was pretty cool driving around with this package. By this time,
I was really struggling to live with my 'Webasto' electric sunroof.
It had problems from day one due to the roof flexing and creating
a very annoying 'creaking' sound while driving over even minimal
bumps in the road. I learnt later that the installers removed my
reinforcing in my roof when they installed the sunroof. No wonder
it creaked. In addition to that, I really disliked the way it appeared
on the roof.
It
was in December 2000 after liasing with Steve about his problems
with his paint work that I was made aware of possible problems with
my own paint work. Off to the dealership to discuss this issue with
them and Ford head office. After about 6 weeks of various discussions
with Ford head office and more problems with the paintwork, it was
agreed that my Probe was going in for a full respray (back
to bare metal). I would like to add that if it were not
for Steve Sarris and his experience with his own Probe that I would
probably never have questioned Ford about the cracks that were appearing
all over my own.
Thanks
buddy!
Now
that I was recieving my new paint job, I decided (with some help
from Steve) that an FX design body kit from the US
would give my ride the unique appearance that I needed. I had contemplated
installing the GTS package again but what the hell.
But
what body kit looks complete without aftermarket wheels? I decided
on 18" TSW VX1's which I had seen on another Probers
ride in the US who also had an FX Designs body kit on his Probe.
I love these wheels.
To
top it all off, I was able to source a factory moonroof from a wrecked
95 Probe in the US which I had airfreighted over here.
